Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose!

In the midst of this summer heat, we find ourselves on the cusp of what some consider to be the most wonderful time of the year. Yes, I am talking about football season. ☺️ There is really nothing quite like it. From tailgating to rivalries to championships won and lost…it’s competition at its best. People can’t get enough of it. It’s why over the next several months it will be difficult to turn on your TV or mobile device and not find a football game or show/video about football on…regardless of the platform or network. And one of my favorite all time shows was Friday Night Lights. Anyone else? It had great storylines and characters like Coach and Tami Taylor, Tim Riggins and so many others. And before every game the Dillon Panthers (who always remind me of my Garner Trojans) would chant these words together, “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose!” Even as I write this newsletter, I’m getting so fired up…I’m probably gonna have to re-watch the series on Netflix again!

But, aside from a love for this TV show and football, I’m sharing this with you for this reason…what if our faith was like that? Here’s what I mean…life is hard. Sometimes, it’s downright mean. It comes at you without remorse or mercy. It knocks you down and tries to keep you down. In fact, Jesus said it like this in John 16:33b, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Did you catch that? He didn’t say you might have trouble. He said you will have trouble. But He didn’t stop there. He didn’t just deliver bad news and say…the world is gonna kick your tail…good luck with that! He makes sure that we know there is more to the story. He said, “the world may give you a hard time, but I’ve got this and you!” He said, “Because I won, you can’t lose!” So yes, we may have to battle and fight. Yes, we may take some hits. But if we will keep our faith firmly rooted in Jesus, if we will keep our eyes clear (focused on Him), and our hearts full (with His Word), we can’t lose!

This fall we want to help you strengthen your faith to be able to do just that. We want to help you keep your faith rooted in Jesus so that you can handle anything the world throws your way. So you are invited to go on a 10-week discipleship journey beginning the week of September 15th at any newhope campus called Rooted. This is more than just a program. This is an experience that is designed to help you deepen your connection with God, others, and help you discover your purpose. It’s a catalyst for life change that will help you become a more fully-devoted follower of Jesus. And registration begins TOMORROW. So make plans to join us at any campus this weekend to hear more about how you can be part of Rooted this fall.
