26 Jul Is there a price to being rich?
Have you ever spent time in or driven through a desert? I remember hearing about a ‘mirage’ in a book or two and hearing that word sprinkled into a conversation occasionally, but until I was in the desert and witnessed it myself I would have never realized how real it looks!
I remember seeing a mirage appearing on the road so close while driving that I took my foot off the gas and was ready to brake…I could have sworn it was a puddle of standing water in the road. For those who may be wondering, the definition of a mirage is:
An optical illusion caused by atmospheric conditions, especially the appearance of a sheet of water in a desert or on a hot road caused by the refraction of light from the sky by heated air.
There is another occasion where we experience this phenomenon. Have you ever thought to yourself, “If I just had more money, I would be so much happier, and generous, and care-free, and…” the list goes on. How could it not be true – money seems to be the answer to everything! Doesn’t having lots of money make all your problems go away? How could there possibly be a price to being rich?
I think most of us would say deep down we know that is not true…and yet, we fall for it over and over again. I know at times I have, and that’s why I cannot wait for this series, Dollars & Sense that Pastor Benji is kicking off this Sunday! The bible is FULL of wisdom on how we should handle money. God’s Word is so good and the Lord has not left us abandoned to try and figure out money on our own.
Few things are as powerful as the mirage of money. I hope you will join us at one of our campuses as we sharpen our vision for our finances and dispel the mirages that take us off our path!
See you Sunday!
