13 Jun These boots are made for…

There’s something about wearing work boots that make me feel like I can conquer the world. Or whatever task my wife has given me to handle. 🙂 Now admittedly as a musician and a worship leader I also have a pair of boots that’s more for show and/or style than for hard work. I try to keep those clean. But even when I wear those, I feel like a pretty hardcore musician! Regardless of the reason I’m wearing boots, they instill confidence and make me feel like I’m equipped to get work done! In Ephesians 6, Paul says to stand “with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.” I like to think that if he was saying that in the year 2019 Paul would say to put on work boots. Wearing the work boots of the gospel of peace should instill confidence in you and help you stand firm. They should allow you to be ready to take on whatever task the Lord has given you without fear!

We’re singing a new song this week and it’s one of my current favorites. The lyrics say that we won’t be shaken when we are standing firm in the love of God. It refers to 1 John 4:18 which says “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.” We have been perfected in love because of Jesus! Check out the lyrics…

When darkness tries to roll over my bones
When sorrow comes to steal the joy I own
When brokenness and pain is all I know
Oh, I won’t be shaken, no, I won’t be shaken

My fear doesn’t stand a chance
When I stand in Your love!
My fear doesn’t stand a chance
When I stand in Your love!
My fear doesn’t stand a chance
When I stand in Your love!

Now I know that sometimes that’s easier said than done. I can remember several times that I let my fear cloud my confidence in the love of God and the power that it holds. The power of Jesus can break every chain and it emptied the grave that our Savior was buried in! We just need to call on it. This week I’d like to challenge you to claim the love of Jesus in your life; to call on it! And remember that the same power that emptied the grave lives in you!!!

There’s power that can break off every chain
There’s power that can empty out a grave
There’s resurrection power that can save
There’s power in Your name, power in Your name!

Whether it’s literally or metaphorically, I’d like to encourage and invite you to wear your work boots this week to church (literally come to church, you can metaphorically wear boots if it’s not your thing). Between now and then though, remember to stand firm in the love and confidence of Jesus. Let’s drive out darkness, sorrow, and pain. People need that. We need that. See you on Sunday! I’ll be at our Hillsborough Campus if you’re nearby. Come visit us! 🙂
