At NewHope, you're welcomed into a friendly environment by people who are excited to see you! You'll find a diverse, fun, Christian church community located in Durham, NC that has been sharing hope for over twenty years.

This is an open invitation to join us on a Sunday for one of our upbeat, engaging services! Once you arrive in the parking lot flash your lights and we'll direct you to our First Time Guest parking. Be sure to stop by our Guest Services area on your first visit for a free gift and an opportunity to learn more about our church and any upcoming events. We can’t wait to meet you!

Adam Bishop

Senior Pastor

Adam Bishop began serving as the Senior Pastor of NewHope Church in June of 2023. Adam and his wife, Morgan, have three boys (Sam, Jacob, and Henry) and they live in Chapel Hill, NC.

Adam grew up in Kennesaw, GA in the metro Atlanta area and graduated from Carson Newman University in 2000. He then obtained a Master of Arts in Religion (2004) and a Master of Divinity (2013) from Liberty University’s School of Divinity. Before serving at NewHope Church, he served as the Senior Pastor at Vaughn Forest Church in Montgomery, Alabama. In his 23 years as a pastor, he has also served at great churches in the metro Atlanta area, New York City, and Denver, Colorado. Adam is a frequent speaker at church growth, leadership, and revitalization conferences around the country, and he also coaches other Senior Pastors through his partnership with the “Courageous Pastors” organization.

In his free time, Adam enjoys coaching his boys’ sports teams, playing a round of golf, UGA football, and all things North Carolina Tarheels. 

Fran Helpingstine

Executive Pastor of Operations

Fran is from Winston-Salem, North Carolina and has been a part of NewHope Church since 2005. In 2008, Fran joined the staff team and currently serves as an Executive Pastor where she leads the church in the oversight of operations and marketing.

NewHope Church has a “come as you are” culture. No matter what stage of life you are experiencing, we have a place for you to belong. We hope that you'll join us and enjoy a free coffee or iced drink on us!
Our faith community is extremely friendly and welcoming to newcomers. Our hope is that our Sunday services provide an inviting atmosphere where everyone feels needed and known.
When you arrive, our parking team will help you find the closest available spot. Once parked, head toward the building entrance where you'll be greeted by more of our awesome volunteers! Be sure to stop by the Guest Services area next to the entrance for directions toward our children's ministry area, cafe, bathrooms, and worship center. We're here to help!
Most people choose to dress casually, but feel free to wear whatever makes you comfortable!
